What is SMTP authentication?

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) it the most commonly used protocol for email servers to communicate with each other across the internet.

SMTP AUTH (SMTP Authentication) is an extension of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol whereby an email client may log in to the SMTP server using an authentication mechanism supported by the SMTP server.

SMTP authentication allows us:

  • To check that only legitimate customers send email through our outgoing mail servers.
  • Tto control spam and viruses sent through our outgoing mail servers and to protect your email service.
  • To identify the sender of any emails to you and helps us stop anonymous emails from getting through.
