Wordpress white screen

WordPress is a great web application and used by bloggers everywhere, however due to 3rd party scripts, plugins and themes WordPress can occasionally run into problems. These problems usually break the php process and a white page is shown with no error giving you little to go on.  The cause of the white screen of death are varied but here's the two most likely causes.

Broken Theme

Your theme could be broken so here's how to fix that:-

  1. Log into your cPanel control panel (http://yourdomain.com/cpanel)
  2. Click phpMyAdmin which is the MySQL database management tool
  3. Locate the correct WordPress Database
  4. Browse table wp_options
  5. Go to page 2 change - the template and style sheet, type in: twentyten.

Incompatible Plugin

You may have installed a WordPress plugin that's incompatible or has become incompatible since a WordPress update.

  1. Login to your cPanel control panel and go to your File Manager
  2. Open the wp-content folder
  3. Rename the "plugins” folder to “plugins_old”.
  4. Create new empty folder called “plugins”.
  5. This will disable all the Wordpress plugins.
  6. Log into WordPress and verify site is working.
  7. You can now enable your plug-ins one at a time to see which one was causing the problem.
